Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Emaar Properties, has greenlit a comprehensive expansion of the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station. This strategic upgrade aims to future-proof one of Dubai’s busiest public transit hubs amid rising passenger demand

•  65% increase in station size: from 6,700 m² to 8,500 m²
•  Hourly capacity boost: rising from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers
•  Daily throughput potential: designed to handle up to 220,000 passengers each day

1.  Wider concourse & platform areas — reducing overcrowding during peak times like New Year’s Eve and public holidays
2.  Separate entry and exit gates — designed to smooth passenger flow.
3.  Additional escalators, elevators & fare gates — easing vertical movement and reducing queuing.
4.  Expanded pedestrian bridges and entrances — improving access and encouraging walkability.
5.  Extended commercial spaces — to enhance station amenities and generate extra revenue

•  Ridership growth: Since opening in 2010, daily boardings average around 58,000, with annual passengers rising from 6.1 M (2013) to over 10.5 M in 2024.
•  Projected needs: The capacity expansion aligns with growth projections extending to 2040.
•  Prime location: Serving as a gateway to Downtown Dubai’s top attractions—Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Dubai Fountain—the station handles massive crowds during events and holidays
